The objective of Rugby is to score more points than the other team. A tie is called if the scores are equal. A try is when a player places the ball in oppositions goal. This counts as 5 points and a team can gain an additional 2 points with a successful place kick made from a line perpendicular to where the try was scored. A goal worth 3 points can also be scored through a penalty with a free kick or a drop kick from the field of play. On the field there are 15 players to each team which are divided into 2 groups. The forwards, or the pack, are the first eight players. The backs are the remaining players with the scrumhalf, number 9, being considered part of either group.
