2005 Palmetto Rugby Tournament

Greenville, Clemson Furman take crown
Three Upstate teams swept the competition to claim 2005 Palmetto Rugby Tournament honors October 29-30.
In the men's finals Greenville ended Charleston's streak of three consecutive titles by upsetting the Outlaws 24-17. Since the Palmetto Tournament was re-founded in 2000 after a decade-long absence, Greenville has won two titles (2000 and 2005). Columbia Olde Grey won the tournament in 2001 and Charleston claimed honors 2002-04.
In the college bracket, Furman bested rival South Carolina 24-13 in the finals to claim its second consecutive championship. Since 2000, USC has captured four state championships, but has fallen short against Furman the past two years. Furman fly-half Blair Barton was named tournament Most Valuable Player.
Clemson women claimed the women's bracket with a narrow 12-10 win over Furman. Clemson and the College of Charleston have each won top honors at the tournament three times.
