Frequently Asked Questions
When did the Because Furman Matters campaign begin?
The silent phase of the campaign began on July 1, 2004. Any new commitment made after that day is included in the current campaign, which will end in 2011.
Do annual fund gifts count in the Because Furman Matters campaign?
Yes. Annual fund gifts, new planned gifts and gifts for any purpose or designation are included in the campaign.
What gifts do NOT count?
Term life insurance, contingency bequests and revocable bequests for which no documentation is provided may not count.
Can a gift be designated and still count towards the $400 Million goal?
Yes!
Will my membership in the Paladin Club count?
Yes!
What is the significance of the 2011 date for the goal? Can a pledge still be outstanding as of 6/30/2011 for it to count towards the goal or does the money actually have to have been received by Furman by that date to count?
All gifts and pledges made prior to June 30, 2011 will count in the campaign regardless of the payment schedule. For example, a pledge made in 2011 that will be paid over 5 years will still count in the campaign even though the payments will not be received until after the campaign has ended.
What is the purpose of the Because Furman Matters campaign?
There are numerous objectives for this comprehensive campaign. However, the main focus of the campaign will be to strengthen Furman's endowment, provide funding for strategic capital projects (including the Townes Center and a new teaching and performance theater), and raise the level of annual support for the University.
