Furman Fitness Center Staff
Jennifer Burgess is the Fitness Coordinator at the PAC and a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. Before joining Furman in 2009, Jennifer trained individuals and groups both in Greenville and in Brooklyn, NY. A graduate of Clemson University with a BS in Marketing, Jennifer handles the promotional and business needs of the PAC. She is also a certified Stretch Technician and Spin Instructor and continues to help people meet their fitness goals.
Brandon Chapin is a 2004 graduate of Furman University; he is presently a Fitness Specialist in the Furman Fitness Center. Prior to his return to Furman in 2007, he served as a member of the Wells High School Track and Field Coaching Staff in Maine. Under his guidance, numerous athletes set school, region and state records. Chapin has also coached post collegiate athletes sending Steve Virgilio to the 2005 Icosathlon (Double Decathlon) World Championship in Lynchburg, Virginia. In his free time Chapin enjoys training for local road races and triathlons. Chapin aims to help people achieve their personal goals within the athletic arena and beyond. Chapin is also a Level I United States Track and Field Certified Coach.
Mickey McCauley attended Furman University, where he was a member of the Track and Field and Cross Country programs. He is a certified personal trainer by the American Council of Exercise, a personal running coach, and a USA Track and Field certified level II coach. Mickey has been coaching runners and developing running programs for 10 years. Mickey is a FIRST faculty member and has been running for more than 25 years. With his extensive running background, Mickey specializes in working with track athletes and runners with all abilities with training programs and technique advice. Mickey also works one to one personal training with individuals who desire to improve their quality of life and fitness level through cardiovascular training, resistance training, and sound nutritional habits.
Scott Murr, director of the Furman Fitness Center and Aquatics, is a member of the Health and Exercise Science Department faculty at Furman University. After graduating from Furman in 1984, Scott spent 8 years in the fitness industry working as a YMCA Fitness Director, Corporate Fitness Specialist, and Exercise Testing Director/Consultant. Scott completed his Master´s degree at Slippery Rock University and continued his graduate studies at the University of Georgia, where he completed his Ed.D. in Exercise Science in 1997. Scott is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine and is an ACSM certified Health and Fitness Instructor. A competitive endurance athlete who has competed in numerous marathons, duathlons, and triathlons, Scott is a ten-time Ironman Triathlon finisher.
Glenn Thrift, Glenn is the Equipment Specialist for the Furman Fitness Center and the Aquatic Center. Glenn has been at Furman for 21 years and maintains all the equipment in the fitness center and pool. He is a competitive cyclist and has won races throughout the Southeast.
