Frequently Asked Questions About the Federal Work-Study Program (FWS)
How do I know if I'm eligible for FWS?
To apply for the FWS program, you must complete the FAFSA each year in the Financial Aid Office. Work-study is based upon a student's finanacial need, and will appear on your financial aid award notice if you are eligible.
What Does the Award Amount mean?
The FWS amount that appears on your financial aid award notice is an eligibility amount. This amount will not be applied toward your tuition. Rather, the "award" represents the amount of FWS funds you are allowed to earn during the year.
What types of FWS jobs are availalbe?
FWS eligible students can chose from a variety of jobs on and off-campus. Available jobs include: clerical, tutoring, food service work, laboratory assistants, and many other positions.
How do I get a work-study job?
Work-study eligible students should contact the Student Employment Office on the day of enrollment to discuss available FWS jobs.
| Note: Be sure that you bring your driver's license and social security card or birth certificate with you to school (a passpost is also acceptable, if available). These forms of identification are necessary for completing work eligibility paperwork, and without them you cannot begin working. |
Most positions are 10 hours per week, but you can work up to 20 hours per week if you choose.
