Cultural Broker in Bonnets: March 1-June 30 (ongoing), Special Collections and Archives, James B. Duke Library. To celebrate Women's History Month, the Library is collaborating with the Florence, South Carolina Museum of Art, Science, and History for the paintings, ceramics, textiles, and historical materials. The Florence Museum was chartered in 1936, largely through the efforts of Jane Evans, who contributed her own artwork as well as materials she had collected. The exhibit will focus on her contributions to the worlds of art and museology but will also provide a broader context of social and women's history. Photographs and correspondence will be featured documenting the founding of the museum and the crucial role which Evans played, as well as Native American pottery, one of the strengths of her collection development strategy.
