Past research supports the idea that memory declines with age; however, some memory abilities are more impaired by aging than others. For example, while general knowledge of the world (e.g., vocabulary) increases with age, most other processes related to memory decline with age. The focus of our research is to enhance our understanding of those memory abilities that do and do not show substantial age-related decrements. Our ultimate goals are to better appreciate how aging affects cognitive processes and to develop strategies for improving memory in older adulthood.
In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that your participation contributes to our understanding of the aging process, we can offer you $10.00 or a new book by my colleague Mark McDaniel and me (Memory Fitness: A Guide for Successful Aging, retail price, $17.00).
Testing typically lasts less than an hour, and no special skills are required to participate. If you would like to participate with a friend or spouse, we can arrange that. Your performance will be kept completely confidential, and we will send you a summary of the results when the research is completed. When we get around to conducting our next study, we will give you a call to arrange your participation. If you would like more information or want to volunteer, please call our research office at (864) 294-2792 or contact me directly at (864) 294-3214.
Thank you,
Gil Einstein.
