I was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and moved to the United States when I was four. I was raised in God's country, New Jersey, and received a BA from Lafayette College and a PhD from the University of Colorado. (In the middle of graduate school, I took a year off to be a ski bum in Crested Butte, Colorado) Although I was fortunate to have many outstanding teachers, my most influential mentors were Burt Cohen at Lafayette College and Bill Battig at the University of Colorado. I have been teaching at Furman University since 1977. I love teaching and research and some of my greatest rewards come from involving students in research.
