It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome to the Furman campus next January Dale Warland, renowned choral conductor, as the chief clinician for Furman's 2010 Church Music Conference January 28-29, 2010. One of the leading figures of American choral music in our time, Dale Warland founded and for many years was Conductor and Artistic Director of the Dale Warland Singers, an ensemble universally praised for its tonal beauty, precision, and musicianship. He has also published numerous compositions and arrangements, including a series of splendid Christmas carol settings for both a capella choir and for choir and various single instruments (flute, oboe, harp).

Dale Warland, Clinician

Dale Warland will present sessions at the Church Music Conference on conducting technique, as well as open rehearsals with both the Furman Singers and Furman Chamber Choir. Other session topics will include "Producing a Beautiful Sound" and  "Rehearsal Strategies and Techniques," as well as a reading session of "Dale's Favorites."

Warland will be joined at the conference by Brenda Smith, Professor of Voice at the University of Florida and a nationally recognized expert on vocal health and working with aging voices; and Scott Bennett, Organist / Choirmaster of Grace Church (Episcopal), Charleston, SC. Dr. Bennett, one of the outstanding organ recitalists on the current American scene, will perform a recital on Furman's magnificent C.B. Fisk organ. The conference will conclude with a concert featuring the Furman Singers and Furman Chamber Choir, with conductors Dale Warland, Bing Vick, and Bill Thomas.

A brochure with complete schedule and details will be forthcoming later this fall. In the meantime, be sure to mark your calendar, and plan on joining us for this outstanding two days of inspiration!
