Bingham Vick, Jr.
Bingham Vick is the Coordinator of Choral Ensembles at Furman and
Director of the Furman Singers
as well as teacher of voice,
choral conducting, and choral literature. A Furman faculty member since
1970, Dr. Vick's primary conducting responsibility is the Furman Singers.
Over its 50-plus year history, the Furman Singers has achieved a national
and international reputation for excellence in choral music. With a
heart for his students and a deep devotion to the wonders of choral
music, Dr. Vick has had the pleasure of watching Furman graduates take
places of musical leadership across the nation: college choir directors,
music ministers, operatic performers, and many non-music majors who,
while here at Furman, developed a love for singing and conducting, along
with a skill for outstanding performance. In addition to his work at
Furman, Dr. Vick has served as the Artistic Director and Conductor of
the 150-voice Greenville Chorale and the professional Chorale Chamber
Ensemble since 1981. He recently retired after 28 years service as the
Musical Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In 2005, Dr. Vick was presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award by his alma mater, Stetson University.
In
1984 Dr.Vick was the Furman Meritorious Teacher of the Year Award
for excellence in teaching. In 2001 Dr.Vick received the state's highest
civilian recognition, the Order of the Palmetto, from the governor
in recognition of his leadership in the arts in the state. In 2004,
the South Carolina Arts Commission awarded Vick the Elizabeth O'Neill
Verner Governor's Award in the Arts for his outstanding achievement
and contribution to the artistic life of South Carolina.
