Ann Shoemaker
Ann Shoemaker joined the Furman University faculty in 2004 as Adjunct Professor of Bassoon. A graduate of Furman University, Ms. Shoemaker went on to the Yale School of Music for graduate school, where she studied bassoon with Frank Morelli, receiving the Nyfenger Award for outstanding musicianship. In addition to her bassoon studio at Furman, Ms. Shoemaker has served as instructor of bassoon at North Carolina School of the Arts and Davidson College.
Ms. Shoemaker is a member of the Greensboro Symphony. She has performed with many other orchestras throughout the southeast and in Connecticut, including the Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Asheville, Hendersonville, Greenville, Augusta, Waterbury and New Britain Symphonies, the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the South Carolina Philharmonic. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Shoemaker has also performed in Washington D.C. and New York City with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players.
Ms. Shoemaker is currently working towards her doctoral degree at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where she studies with Michael Burns. In addition to her degree work, Ms. Shoemaker has studied and performed both orchestral and chamber music at the Tanglewood, Aspen, Norfolk, Banff, Hot Springs, and Colorado College Music Festivals. In addition to Dr. Burns and Mr. Morelli, her primary teachers have been Carol Lowe and Kevin Hall.
