Gail Schoonmaker
Gail Schoonmaker has served on the Furman University voice faculty since 1977. A native
of Charlotte, NC, she attended Furman University and received her B.M. degree in Voice Performance in 1973.
Continuing her studies, she received her M.M. degree in Voice Performance at Northwestern University. While in
Chicago, she sang professionally with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Richard Boldrey Singers. Mrs. Schoonmaker
has had the opportunity to attend the Tito Gobbi Opera Workshop at Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy. Her solo
performances include appearances with the Greenville Civic Chorale, Music in the Mountains, Masterworks Choir
(Florence, SC), Brevard Music Center, SC Baptist Convention, and Charleston Southern University. Recently,
she has performed as a member of the Heritage Chamber Singers. Her honors include selection in Who's Who Among
Colleges and Universities and Outstanding Young Women of America. She has been an active member of the
National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) since 1978 and has served as adjudicator for the NATS student
auditions of the S.C. District and the Mid-Atlantic Region as well as the Solo and Ensemble Festival of the South
Carolina Music Teachers Association.
