Bruce Schoonmaker
Bruce Schoonmaker performs frequently in the southeastern United
States; his combination of vocalism and dramatic ability has endeared
him to audiences of the Greenville Chorale, Charlotte Symphony, Greenville
Symphony, Opera Carolina, and the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte. From
1983 to 1996 he was leading baritone with the Brevard Music Festival.
He has had the opportunity to study technique and interpretation with

Florence, Italy. In 1984, he won the Bel Canto Competition and studied
with Carlo Bergonzi and Renata Tebaldi at the Teatro Communale in
Giuseppi Verdi's hometown, Busseto, Italy. At Furman, Dr. Schoonmaker
teaches private voice
and directs the Opera Theatre. Dr. Schoonmaker made his New York City
debut in June of 2004, singing with the New York City Chamber Orchestra
in a performance at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.
