Kathy Cochran

Prior to her graduation from Furman in 1975, Kathy Cochran was already active as a music teacher and church choir director. From that time until the present, she has continued her tradition of working with children, teens, and adults in South Carolina. Having taught public school music in diverse programs on all levels ranging from kindergarten general music through high school choral music, she brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills to Furman University’s choral music education department. A choral conductor and adjudicator, Dr. Cochran is also noted as a speaker, with interests and presentations ranging from classroom management to literacy education, both musical and textual. Recognized locally by her colleagues as Teacher of the Year in five different South Carolina schools, she was also honored nationally when her composition, “Music is for All Ages,” was selected by Music Educators National Conference as the theme song for its first annual World’s Largest Concert. Mentored by the late Richard Maag, former music educator at Furman University, Dr. Cochran continues his legacy of high standards and quality music education.
