Lisa Browne Barksdale
Lisa Browne Barksdale is a graduate of Furman University and Northwestern
University. Mrs. Barksdale has been teaching and performing for over
20 years. Nine of her teaching years were spent as the Junior High
and High School Choral Director at Pace Academy in Atlanta. Mrs. Barksdale
was heavily involved in Atlanta's music community, both as a volunteer
and professional singer. Since moving to Greenville, Mrs. Barksdale
has presented solo recitals on campus and in area churches.
She has soloed with the Greenville Chorale and Greenville Chamber
Choir and holds membership in the National Association of Teachers
of Singing and the Music Educators National Conference.
In 2006, Mrs. Barksdale earned certification in the McClosky vocal technique: CMVT - Certified McClosky Voice Technician. She uses the McClosky system of relaxation and proper posture to aid her students to sing freely and to help people exhibiting vocal disorders.
In
her own singing, Mrs. Barksdale regularly demonstrates her strongest
philosophy: that if one does not communicate, one should not perform.
She believes that communication in singing encompasses beauty of tone,
excellence of technique, and word-by-word understanding of the text.
Mrs. Barksdale enjoys improving her teaching by attending master classes
and workshops. She believes that for the singer, learning never ends.
