Hugh Floyd

Hugh Ferguson Floyd is Director of Choral Studies at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. At Oberlin, Dr. Floyd conducts the Oberlin College Choir, the Oberlin College Singers, the Oberlin Musical Union, and, in rotation, the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra. The Oberlin College Choir performs regularly with the Cleveland Orchestra, and last year also sang for the American Choral Directors Division Convention and with the renowned Kronos Quartet. Dr. Floyd is a graduate of Furman University, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Michigan. He has studied conducting privately with Elizabeth A.H. Green, Margaret Hillis, and Ann Howard Jones.

Prior to his current positions, he was conducting assistant of the Charlotte (North Carolina) Symphony and director of the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte. In Charlotte, he also conducted the Oratorio Chamber Singers, a select ensemble that frequently performs at the Spoleto Festival. He served as chorus master for the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Symphony, and opera chorus master and conductor in residence at the Brevard Music Center. Dr. Floyd frequently serves as a guest conductor and clinician and recently conducted All-State choirs in New Jersey, Tennessee and North Carolina. Dr. Floyd has also prepared ensembles for such eminent conductors as Robert Shaw, Margaret Hillis, Robert Page, Franz Welser-Möst and Robert Spano.


Sandra Holland

Sandy R. Holland, the Artistic Director of the Charlotte Children's Choir, has been with the Choir since 1991.  Ms. Holland received her Bachelor’s degree from Pfeiffer College and Master’s degree from Indiana University where she served as assistant conductor of the University Children’s Choir under the direction of Dr. Mary Goetze.  She was recently selected as a Chorus America Masterclass Conducting Fellow with Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt and Dr. Ann Howard Jones.

Sandy is the founding director of the “Children’s Celebration in Song” summer program for 150 children in the greater Charlotte area, and co-founder of the Annual Piedmont Invitational Children’s Choir Festival for children’s choirs across the state of North Carolina. Under her direction the Charlotte Children’s Choir has appeared at Carnegie Hall, on the A&E Television Special “Judy Collins Christmas at Biltmore”, appears regularly with the Charlotte Symphony, was featured in 2006 on NPR’s “From the Top”, and has sung for regional and national music educators conferences, including the National Kodaly Conference 2006, the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA) Southern Division Convention in 2000.  The Choir will appear at the ACDA Southern Division Convention this March in Louisville, KY.  An experienced and sought after choral clinician, Sandy has conducted all-state choruses, workshops and clinics in twelve states.

Ms. Holland is a member of the American Organization of Kodaly Educators, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Chorus America, and the American Choral Directors Association.  She is certified in Orff-Schulwerk and has received the Artist Teacher Diploma from the Choral Music Experience Institute with Doreen Rao.   Sandy is the past-chair of the Repertoire and Standards Committee on Children’s Choirs for the Southern Division of ACDA, and the 2008 Chair of the ACDA Southern Division Honors Choir.


Jonathan Moyer

Jonathan William Moyer has been described by the Baltimore Sun as “ever-expressive” and a “superb organist.” Sought after as a pianist, organist and conductor, his schedule is filled with solo and collaborative performances.  He is organist and choirmaster of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Timonium, MD, and is a teacher at the Baltimore School for the Arts. He has performed throughout the north eastern United States as well as England, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the Czech Republic.  He has performed with such ensembles as Concert Artists of Baltimore, the Handel Choir of Baltimore, the Masterworks Chorale, and the Cantate Chamber Singers of Washington DC. Throughout 2008 he is scheduled to perform the complete organ works of Olivier Messiaen at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore, celebrating the centenary of the compo ser’s birth and the renovation of the cathedral’s organ.

Mr. Moyer is completing a doctorate in organ as a student of Donald Sutherland at the Peabody Conservatory, where he completed both a graduate performance diploma in organ and a master’s degree in piano as a student of Ann Schein. He holds a bachelor of music degree in piano from Bob Jones University.  He has attended organ festivals in England, Germany and Switzerland, and has studied organ privately with Susan Landale in Paris. In 2005 he was one of four finalists in the St. Albans International Organ Competition. 


Chicora Voices

Alan Reed, Artistic Director and Conductor
Prior to the creation of Chicora Voices, Mr. Reed was Artistic Director and Conductor of its predecessor choir, The Boy Choir of the Carolinas, for five seasons. He has been Director of Music Ministries at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors since 2004 after having served Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville for nearly twenty years. Alan has served as a choral clinician for children's and adult choirs in the Carolinas. He has served as a conference planner and worship leader for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians' regional and national conferences. His choral performances include those with the Piedmont Men's Chorale, the Southern Appalachian Chamber Singers and the Carnegie Hall Festival Chorus. Recent appearances as a lyric baritone soloist have been with the Asheville Symphony Chorus and the Piccolo Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston.  Alan holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Mars Hill College, with additional study in conducting and church music at Westminster Choir College and Trinity Lutheran Seminary.

Laura Jean Reed, Conductor
As founder and Artistic Director of The Furman Children's Chorus, predecessor choir to Chicora Voices, Jeanie comes with a wealth of knowledge and accomplishments to her credit as a specialist in the child’s voice. She established herself as a distinguished educator in Upstate South Carolina while teaching at Taylors Elementary School for fifteen years. She is currently the Music Specialist and Chair of the Fine Arts Team at Greenville's Stone Academy of Communication Arts. Jeanie is the 2007-2008 Greenville County Teacher of the Year.  Jeanie is an active clinician and guest conductor throughout the nation. Jeanie holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Education from Furman University.
