Bachelor of Arts

This is a liberal arts degree with approximately one-third of the course work in music. Admission to this degree program is through audition. Because of the breadth of study within the liberal arts curriculum, this degree offers many expanded options for study in music and related fields. The Bachelor of Arts degree presents the flexibility students seek when wishing to study more than one discipline.

Additional details may be found in the Music Department Handbook and the BA Degree Flow Chart.  View More.

Bachelor of Arts in Music candidates are considered music majors and are eligible for music scholarship consideration. Learn more about auditions for entry into Furman's music program by visiting the audition pages on our web site.

Q.  Does Furman offer minors?

A. Furman doesn't offer "minors" in any of its disciplines - music included. Music degree options are BM degrees (approximately 65% of courses in music) or BA (approximately 35% of courses in music). So, our BA degree, though it certainly has more substance than most minors, is our closest option for a conventional "minor."
