Visit Furman Music

Personalized Visit

We invite you to visit Furman and see for yourself why Furman is such an engaging environment. Campus visits are coordinated by the Welcome Center staff under the guidance of Mrs. Nancy Griffeth.  Visit the Admissions web site or call 864-294-2236 to schedule a campus visit.

Having the opportunity to talk with someone in your performance area will offer a better idea of what the Furman musical experience is all about.  To schedule a visit to the music department, contact the Music Admissions Coordinator, Marcella Frese, via eMail: furmanmusic@furman.edu or by phone 864.294.2118.  She will handle the music portion of your visit, making any necessary faculty contacts. For a student intending to major in music, the typical visit will allow time for ensemble observation, class observation and a 20 minute conversation with a faculty member in your performance area.  Non-majors may wish to simply observe a rehearsal and meet the director, though they are also welcome to observe classes.  (Yes - our ensembles are open to non-majors and majors!)  First-time visitors will also want to participate in the Admissions Tour and Information Session (Admissions Welcome Center).   Students considering a performance degree may request a sample lesson which typically involves 20 minutes of 'lesson' and 10 minutes of conversation.

When is the best time to visit?  Weekdays during the school year.  Which weekday depends on which classes or ensemble you wish to observe.  A listing of courses and rehearsals is posted below to aid you in planning your visit.  You may also want to coordinate your visit with a special evening performance. Our events calendar is posted here.
