Anna Barbrey Joiner

Anna Barbrey Joiner, professor of viola and string education at Furman University and director of the South Carolina Suzuki Institute, received the Doctor of Music, Master of Music Education, and Master of Music degrees from Florida State University, and the Bachelor of Music from Furman University. Before returning to her alma mater in 1994 Dr. Joiner was Associate Professor of Viola, violist with The Franklin String Quartet, and Director of the UGA Talent Education Center at the University of Georgia School of Music. She has presented and co-authored research for international conferences in Chicago and Japan and written articles for The American String Teacher, American Suzuki Journal, Tempo, and Georgia Music News. In 1988 she was a prizewinner in the Atlanta Pro-Mozart Competition and also became a member of the Artist-Faculty at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC. In addition to teaching and performing at BMC Dr. Joiner also coordinates the faculty coaching and  Teaching Assistantship program. She is an active orchestral and chamber player and  performs with her husband, violinist Thomas Joiner, as The Joiner Duo. They served as Artists-in-Residence in 1992 and 1994 at the Universidade do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and performed with the Orquestra da Camera Theatre Sao Pedro. In 2000 The Joiner Duo released a CD entitled Intermezzo on the ACA Digital label.
