The information below will be helpful for students who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree (BLA) in either Accounting, Business Administration or the combination of both degrees. The academic and professional objectives of our students vary. UES students take courses for professional advancement, to prepare for the CPA exam, to gain admission to an MBA program and others just to complete their degree and for personal reasons. About Undergraduate Evening Studies:
The Bachelor of Liberal Arts was established in 2002 to serve the educational needs of adult students. This degree gives them the opportunity to achieve a BLA with emphasis is Accounting, Business Administration or both. Graduates from Furman's Evening Studies program are preparing to take the CPA Examination, apply to an MBA program or enter the marketplace in a variety of Accounting and Business Administration fields.
o receive a breadth of experiences in the liberal arts
o develop a major field of study
o choose a large number of courses which are most appropriate to their particular interests
o effectively utilize previous college credits
For the degree, a student must complete the following:
o General Education requirements
o A major that meets department requirements
o Elective courses, exclusive of courses in the major, sufficient to complete the requirements for graduation
o A minimum of 125 semester hours
•Three traditional semesters; Spring, Summer and Fall.
•At least a 2.5 GPA (4.0 Scale) in all college level coursework.
(Important: If you have lower than a 2.5 GPA in previous college coursework, but are still interested in applying, call UES for an appointment at 864-294-3160 and speak to an advisor personally. We would like to speak with you about your academic goals.)
•Submission of all college transcripts (high school transcripts needed if a degree has not been attained from an accredited institution)
•Submission of a Undergraduate Evening Studies Application for Admission with $25.00 application fee.
•Meet with either Director of Continuing Education or Assistant Director or Undergraduate Evening Studies.
•Applicants under 21 years of age must submit most recent SAT or ACT scores.
Transfer Coursework:
•Student must have achieved at least a C- grade in the course.
•A maximum of 64 hours can be transferred from a two-year institution.

Tuition rates are established on a yearly basis and are listed on each class schedule. Audit students pay one-half rate. Payment must accompany all registrations. Methods of payment include cash, checks, MasterCard or VISA, employer vouchers, or approved financial aid. Students with financial aid should attach a copy of the award notice; those with a company voucher should attach a copy along with directions for billing the employer. Checks should be made payable to Furman University.
•The 2008-2009 academic year per credit cost is $330.

You will need:
150 hours of college credit
A bachelors degree
36 hours of Accounting coursework (24 credits at the upper levels) and 36 hours of Business Administration coursework (24 at the upper levels). Students can sit for the exam with 24/24.
1 year of accounting experience under the direct supervision of a CPA.
Coursework in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Tax Accounting and a variety of others.
