Study Away Options
Find another student to take your room so that you don’t lose your room assignment. If you’re planning to enroll in a study away program in the fall, you might consider making arrangements with a student who is going on a study away trip in the spring. That way, you’ll each have a room assignment when you’re on campus. Find a student through Roommate Finder on OrgSync.
Wait to see which rooms are available after the housing lottery is complete. You do not need to participate in the housing lottery. Instead, our office will contact you via email in the fall to begin the room assignment process. If you make arrangements with one or more students for the spring, contact us.
Participate in the housing lottery and guarantee your space. You will be responsible for 75% of the cost. Our office will also have the option to use your space for other students while you’re gone.
Participate in the housing lottery and reserve your space. You will be responsible for the full cost, and your room will be not be used while you’re away.
If you are planning to go on a study away trip during the spring semester, you have the following options to secure a room assignment for the fall semester:
Make arrangements to fill-in for someone studying away during the fall semester. You will vacate your room assignment prior to winter break. Find a student through Roommate Finder or OrgSync.
Secure an assignment for the academic year by participating in the housing lottery. You will need to cancel your spring assignment before our fall cancellation deadline.
Partial Semester Trips
If you are planning to participate in a study away trip that lasts more than eight weeks but does not cover the entire semester, you will be responsible for 75% of the semester’s rate. You should participate in the housing lottery to secure your room assignment for the full academic year.
However, if you will be on campus for less than eight weeks because of a study away trip, you will be responsible for 100% of the semester’s room rate. You can minimize your costs by choosing a room with lower costs. You will also need to participate in the housing lottery.
