Student Selection

Approximately 24 students from the Greenville County School District are selected for the Bridges program annually. Each class is named after a letter in the Greek alphabet (the first Bridges class was "Alpha").

At any one time there are a total of 72 students in three Bridges classes; they graduate after their third summer.

Students are nominated in their ninth grade year by teachers and guidance counselors. The application process includes a written application and an interview on the Furman campus. Students are selected based upon the following criteria:
  • Financial need
  • Family college tradition
  • Educational or vocational goals
  • Service or leadership record
  • Academic record
  • Positive disciplinary record
