Trails Furman University

When you visit Furman, one of the first things you'll notice is that South Carolina's trails are easily accessible from campus. Sure, you can explore one of the biking and hiking trails in any of South Carolina's state parks. But if you want to go for a quick jog after class, you don't have to leave campus to find a scenic trail. Hop on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, or Furman's own 5k course. If you are looking for something more adventurous, there are a number of paved and unpaved trails surrounding Greenville. From Furman, there's no shortage of trails to explore.

Asbury Hills Camp

Three trails lead hikers to views of waterfalls, wetlands, and mountains. The trails are free, but they’re owned by the Asbury Hills United Methodist Youth Camp and gated. Be sure to call ahead.

Chesnut Ridge Heritage Preserve

Make the journey to Squirrel Mountain. This 1,886-acre property is owned and managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. It features a 5-1/2 mile trail that will take you over the mountain top.

Cleveland Park

Located along the Reedy River, the paved trails of Cleveland Park will take you through playground areas and behind the Greenville Zoo. From here, you can reach Falls Park or the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

Conestee Nature Park

The park has paved, natural and boardwalk trails running through its 400-acre property. Just six miles from downtown Greenville, the city has plans to connect this park to the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

The Poinsett River Passage of the Palmetto Trail

This moderately difficult, six-mile hike takes you through the Poinsett Watershed and to the top of Rocky Spur Mountain—an elevation of 3,060 feet. Bring your camera because this trail is known for some rare plants and wildlife. The passage is a part of the larger Palmetto Trail, which runs through the entire state of South Carolina.

Reedy River Falls

Are you a history buff? Check out the trail surrounding Reedy River Falls. This short, half-mile walk has 14 historical markers. When you’re done reliving history, why not have lunch beside the beautiful Reedy River?

Swamp Rabbit Trail

Seeking a new route to downtown or Travelers Rest? This paved trail runs through our campus and is a popular place for students and community members to bike, run, and walk.
