Favorite activity in Greenville: I absolutely love riding my bike on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, which is a 20-mile rail trail that runs from Greenville to Travelers Rest and is accessible directly from Furman’s campus. It’s always fun to stop for an ice cream cone at Spill the Beans or for some bubble tea at OCHA on the way!

Favorite Greenville restaurant: I will never get tired of the Goat Cheese Balls at The Lazy Goat or the weekend buffet at Handi. (I studied abroad in India while at Furman so I love some good Indian food!)

Favorite Furman tradition:As an alum as well as a former freshman hall RA, I love all the traditions that occur during your freshman year. From the My Tie dance that happens within the first few weeks of school, to being “laked” on your birthday, to your first homecoming experience, freshman year is a time that is full of tradition and excitement. After your first year, you will be amazed at how much pride and affection you have gained for Furman!

Best thing about Furman: The relationships. It sounds cliché, but the relationships I formed with faculty, staff, and other students on campus were truly the best part of my Furman experience. My professors took the time to get to know me as an individual beyond the classroom, and I still keep up with many of them today. I also loved forming relationships with staff members who I crossed paths with along the way. These individuals will root for you and be your support system while you are a student and even after graduation.

Hobbies/Interests: Reading, traveling, decorating, exploring Greenville, and being active with my husband, Will (Furman Class of 2016).

Most frequently asked questions and answer: Why should I consider a liberal arts college? Furman’s liberal arts curriculum ensures that you will graduate as a well-rounded, knowledgeable student ready to take on whatever field that interests you. In today’s job market, traditional career tracks are evolving rapidly and the liberal arts approach ensures that you will be adaptable and ready for anything. What’s more, Furman’s approach to education encompasses unmatched opportunities in research, internship, and study away experiences that are traditionally only available at larger, research-focused institutions. Furman is truly the best of both worlds!

Best piece of advice for prospective students: Resist the urge to tell me what you think I want to hear on your application. I want to get to know you for who you are—help me understand what makes you unique!

Random/fun fact about you: I grew up with 4 siblings and moved to Singapore as a junior in high school. I am also one of 4 in my immediate family to attend Furman!
