Meet Keda

I love attending Furman's athletic events. My favorite tradition is jingling my keys before kickoff at football games. All the fans are shouting "Oh" as the players prepare to run down the field. As soon as the kicker's foot touches the ball, we shout "Oh, FU!" It really brings the fans together.

Best of list

show Best study location:

I always look for one of the corner study rooms in the library. It's the best spot to people watch because you've got a view of everyone inside and outside.

show Favorite activity:

Mentoring with the Ladies of Distinction. We work with middle school ladies from Berea Middle.

show Biggest challenge:

Balancing work and play. I try to reserve the first half of my day for class and homework. Then, after 3 p.m., I have fun with all the organizations that I'm involved in.

show Favorite class:

Perspectives on American Education: Dr. Paul Thomas led some great discussions in that class. We had a diverse group with students from across the country, and because of that, we had heated and passionate discussions about what we liked and didn't like about the education system. If I could take it again, I would.

show Best campus dining spot:

The Pala Den for Moe's Mondays. For $5, you get any size burrito, a 32 oz. drink, and chips.

Helpful Tips

show Choosing a major:

Talk with some of the professors in the departments you are considering.

show Studying:

Make study goals. For example, after two hours of work, you can go to Einstein Bros. Bagels for a break.

show Making friends:

Keep an open mind and push yourself out of your comfort zone.

show What isn't in the brochure:

Don't hold back because you're afraid of getting too involved. I did that as a freshman, and now I wish I had done a few more things.

show Living on campus:

Get out of your room as often as you can to mingle, but make sure you make time for yourself too.

show When you're there:

Take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself. You never know where a path might lead you until you start going down it. If someone asks me to do something, I try to do it because that's a new skill I wouldn't have obtained.
