Post-completion OPT is the employment authorization used after program completion to work in a field related to your major for students in F-1 status.

WHEN TO APPLY

The timeline for OPT is very broad and can be chosen based on personal preference. You need to take certain things into consideration such as:
  • Do you want to be eligible to work immediately after graduation?
  • Will you need to have time after graduation to do interviews or seek employment?
  • Would you prefer to choose the latest start date possible so you can have time in the U.S. before beginning employment?
A timeline is outlined below to help you understand the limitations.
