  • Current disciplinary research interests

Influence of land cover and land use (especially urban land) on water quality in streams and rivers.

  • Interest in connecting sustainability to research

I have already made connections to sustainability in my research, both through collaboration with other faculty in my department (Dennis Haney and Min-Ken Liao) and with faculty in EES (Brannon Andersen, Wes Dripps, and Suresh Muthukrishnan). For example, we have monitored water quality in Furman Lake before and during the Lake Restoration process, and we have documented ways in which urban land cover influences streams and rivers in the Upstate. I am interested in collaborating with faculty in the social sciences on sustainability studies in the future.

  • Center-funded research projects

In March 2016, Min-Ken Liao and I were awarded a Food Systems and Farming Initiative grant to study the effectiveness of an anaerobic composting technique.  We also examined bacterial loads on organic and conventional produce acquired at local grocery stores and markets.
