Internship for Course Credit

PSY 505 Group Internship & PSY 503 Individual Internship

Students can enroll in Group Internship (PSY 505) or Individualized Internship (PSY 503) for either two or four credits per semester (35 hours of on-site experience per credit). Course activities include biweekly class discussions, weekly journal entries, reading internship-related primary articles, writing an American Psychology Association-style research paper, and presenting at Furman Engaged, our annual on-campus student conference. View the Internship Supervisor Guidelines for more information.

Complete the PSY 503 or PSY 505 Internship Contract with your internship supervisor prior to the start of your internship. To sign up for the course, complete the Individualized Instruction Form and Off-Campus Consent Form.

Summer Internships

As a Furman Psychology major, many summer internship opportunities are available to you. You could choose an internship in the Greenville area or you could find yourself focusing on neuropsychological patients at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL or researching chimpanzees at Yerkes Primate Center in Atlanta. We encourage interested students to apply for a Furman Advantage Fellowship to support your summer internship experience. Furman Advantage is one of the few programs in the United States that directly funds student research and internships each summer, providing competitive fellowships for students who would otherwise receive little or no payment. Applications for Furman Advantage Internship funding for summer internships are typically due at the end of February. Visit the Internship Office to start the process of setting up a summer internship and to find more information about the Furman Advantage Fellowship.
