Career Opportunities Psychology Furman University

Employers consistently identify innovation, critical thinking and a broad skill set as the qualities they seek when hiring. These are skills that our psychology major fosters. For example, in the classroom, we require students to go beyond memorizing facts – students are expected to synthesize, integrate and apply their knowledge, and refine their oral presentation and writing skills. With a psychology degree you will be well-equipped for the fields of psychology, medicine and health-related careers, social work, education, non-profit service, human resources, marketing, and many others.

Our graduates are successful at securing jobs. Recent graduates currently work in organizations such as Children’s Hospital of Boston, the U.S. National Parks Service, Pfizer Inc., Windstream Communications, South Carolina Department of Social Services, Centers for Disease Control, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Nearly half of our graduates attend graduate school, excelling in leading programs at institutions such as Harvard, Washington University (St. Louis), Indiana, Duke, and Ohio State. In fact, three of our recent psychology graduates have won National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships, awarded to only 50 students nationwide yearly. Many of our graduates also choose to study law, education, medicine, or enter other training programs.
