Philosophy is present in our every day lives, from decisions in the medical field to the way we view food. We use philosophy to help us understand the societies and cultures around us.
Here at Furman, we emphasize a hands-on curriculum that explores and investigates humanity's place in nature and history. Our program will prepare you for graduate study in philosophy, but our students have also become doctors, lawyers, engineers, artists, social workers, ministers, and more.

The 2013 Philosophy Department Newsletter is now available.

  • Congratulations to current philosophy major, Judith Carlisle, for being awarded a grant by The Humanities Council of South Carolina to do research entitled: "The Devil Went Down to South Carolina: A Philosophical Reflection on Evangelical Christian Views on God and Politics."
