Bryan Betancur holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Psychology from Providence College and a doctorate in Hispanic Studies from Brown University. His principle area of research is early modern Spanish theater, and he is particularly interested in studying the ways in which conflicted father-daughter relationships on stage reflect the political and social tensions of the period.

The son of Colombian immigrants, Prof. Betancur strives to incorporate his biculturalism into the classroom and serve as a bridge between US and Hispanic cultures.

Learning a second language is a complex yet enriching process that works best in an inclusive, encouraging, and dynamic environment. My role is not so much to lecture as to facilitate and motivate, to give students the opportunity to both engage in meaningful conversation and question assumptions about their and other cultures.
