GERMAN LANGUAGE HOUSE ASSISTANT
My name is Sandra and I’m the German Language House Assistant for this year.
I am from a relatively small town in Northern Germany called Cuxhaven. Many tourists spend their summers in my hometown and enjoy the weather and the beach.
I love to travel, spend time with my family and friends, draw and enjoy action sports, for instance diving, skiing, snowboarding and climbing.
After graduating from high school in New Jersey as an exchange student and receiving my Abitur in Germany, I was excited about the possibility to spend another year in the United States.
Furman’s offer gave me the chance to put my passion for teaching to the test. I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher and I am now convinced more than ever that this is the right choice for me.
My job at Furman is a lot of fun and I am very happy to be here and help students improve their German. Besides teaching classes, tutoring and having weekly presentations about my culture, I am also responsible for the extracurricular activities, such as Kaffeestunde and Oral Boot Camp to help the students improve their language skills. I also organize weekly Movie Nights showing contemporary movies from Germany, which students are encouraged to attend.
