Program Overview History Furman University

Offering a bachelor of arts in history, our program provides considerable breadth and depth in its course offerings. Our students are exposed to a wide range of geographical regions and time periods, allowing them to explore and expand their interests in ancient, medieval, early modern, and modern cultures and civilizations. Our wide-ranging curriculum covers North American, European, African, Asian, Latin American, and Middle Eastern history.

With an 11-to-1 faculty-to-student ratio, our students are able to engage in critical discussion and undergraduate research with our professors. Our students not only learn about history—the critical study of the past—but in the process, they learn how to read critically, analyze thoroughly, synthesize concisely, and write effectively. We teach communication and problem-solving skills that are applicable across all disciplines and professions.
