ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR: BIOLOGY
Furman University invites applications for an open rank tenure-track position in Biology to begin in August 2017.
We seek a broadly trained biologist to teach biochemistry. Ability to teach microbiology is desirable. Other teaching opportunities could include genetics, introductory biology, a writing seminar for first-year students, or an offering in the candidate's specialty. The area of research specialization is flexible but should encompass biochemical approaches and complement existing strengths in the Biology Department. Biologists whose work integrates views from multiple areas of biology and other science disciplines are particularly encouraged to apply. We are interested in hiring faculty members with diverse perspectives who will foster innovation in our curriculum and provide a rich and varied educational experience for our students.
Candidates must have their Ph.D. (by June 2017) and show evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to establishing a productive research program that leads to publication with undergraduates. Mentoring of undergraduate research is typically pursued intensively in the summer but often continues during the academic year. Most students will present their research in posters or talks at regional or national scientific conferences. Startup funds will be provided.
Applications should be submitted at https://jobs.furman.edu/postings/6068. Submit PDF versions of curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching credentials and philosophy; a statement of research interests, future research priorities, and an initial research plan for work with undergraduates; a short statement describing how your teaching, scholarship, mentoring and/or service might contribute to a liberal arts college community that includes a commitment to diversity as one of its core values; all unofficial transcripts; and names and contact details for three references. Review of applications begins on February 13, 2017 and continues until the position is filled.
