Our department enjoys support from Furman University's Chaplains Office.
The Furman Chaplains Office sponsors a wide variety of student religious organizations that seek to create an atmosphere conducive to spiritual growth while providing opportunities for service and fellowship. The chaplains work closely with students in planning worship services, discussion groups and retreats. As coordinators of the Exploration of Vocational Ministry (EVM) organization, the chaplains advise students interested in ministry-related careers. EVM students have the opportunity to work at internships in local churches, hospitals, and other organizations.
These positions are designed not only to meet students' personal and pre-professional needs but also to acquaint students with a variety of ministries and to provide an appropriate connection between formal academic study and the practice of ministry. The chaplains also offer personal and vocational counseling and testing, and they promote a variety of experiences designed to encourage awareness, exploration, and preparation for the ministry.
