About the Interdisciplinary Minor

Furman Spanish students and faculty at Machu Picchu (Spring 2011)

The Latin American Studies Interdisciplinary Minor is designed to equip students with an in-depth understanding of Latin America through various disciplinary lenses. Areas of examination include, but are not limited to, politics, history, literature, race and ethnicity studies, biology, ecology, gender and sexuality, and public health.

The LAS IM helps prepare students for a career related to Latin America and/or the Caribbean in such fields as business, governmental relations, developmental assistance, agricultural economics, environmental policy, or law. Others might be interested in pursuing graduate studies in any field relating to Latin America. Students may also choose LAS simply because they are interested in the region.

Students wishing to declare this interdisciplinary minor  should consult with the concentration chair, Erik Ching, in Furman Hall 200-I. Dr. Ching will serve as students' LAS advisor during their course of study at Furman.
