Objectives

The purpose of the Faculty Fellow Program is to (1) increase the faculty involvement in the campus-wide development of activities, (2) allow individual faculty members to make unique contributions to the campus community, and (3) align professional activities with the missions of the Faculty Development Center, the Furman Advantage strategic vision, and evolving university priorities. The Faculty Development Center seeks to provide holistic support to all faculty members in different disciplines, of different scholarly interests and talents, and at different stages of their careers. We aim to help faculty grow, develop, and excel in their professional responsibilities and activities in and out of the classroom so they may contribute to the university community, support the strategic goals of the university, and have fulfilling and meaningful careers.

Role of the Faculty Fellow

In addition to assisting the Executive Director and Director with the regular and ongoing programs, the Faculty Fellow will propose, develop, and lead a one-semester campus-wide faculty development program. The Faculty Fellow will receive one course reduction for their effort and the contribution.

General application guidelines

Any full-time faculty members may apply. To be considered, please submit your project proposal, including anticipated outcomes and assessment plans, using this online form, and email Linette Reyes-Berberena at FDC (1) a two-page curriculum vitae and (2) a brief letter of support from the chair of your department. A successful proposal should have sound goals using the S.M.A.R.T goal approach. S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely. Selection of the Fellow will be made by the Dean of Faculty, Executive Director of FDC, Director of FDC, and the current Faculty Fellow. Preference will be given to projects with broad and lasting impacts on faculty development.

Accountability and Reporting

At the end of the one-year term, the Faculty Fellow will be required to submit a formal summary report. The report will be posted on the website of the Faculty Development Center.
