Furman purchased two GEMs (Global Electronic Mobility) vehicles this summer
to deliver mail. The vehicles are electric-powered and cost approximately
$8,500. Unlike golf carts, GEMs can carry up to 1,000 pounds in a "pick-up"
type bed and have a top speed of 25 miles per hour. GEMs come complete with
headlights and taillights and are manufactured by Chrysler in Fargo, North
Dakota.
