The Furman Board of Trustees has approved a measure that would create an advisory committee to oversee the construction and financing of a retirement center near campus. The center would be similar to the one constructed at Oberlin College, pictured to the left.

Furman receives Beacon award for engaged learning The National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) has given Furman its 1999 Beacon Award for Outstanding Achievement in Experiential Education, which recognizes the university's excellence in experiential education.
