University policy stipulates that faculty will provide students the opportunity to offert their opinions about the instruction offered in each course (see Policy 122.2 Student Evaluation of Instructors
). The student opinion of instruction surveys are administered by the Registrar's Office via a secure online tool available through MyFurman at the conclusion of each term.
Departments choose the questions asked in the survey from three choices: the standard Faculty Status Committee forms, department-developed forms, and instructor-developed forms. Department chairs should discuss with faculty in their department what types of questions (likert scale and free reponse are both allowable) will be used for each course section within the department and notify the Registrar's Office accordingly.
Survey results are available to the Faculty Status Committee, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, applicable department chairs and individual instructors at the conclusion of the survey administration period.
The Faculty Status Committee requests that all probationary faculty use the standard Faculty Status Committee form.
Chairs must not share information contained in the student opinion of instruction surveys with students.
